Sickle-Cell Anemia
SYMPTOMS. Sickle-Cell Anemia may show signs of jaundice (a yellowing of the
skin), fever, severe abdominal pain with vomiting, intermittent joint pain,
intermittent back pain and any of the signs of Iron Deficiency Anemia except
the signs are usually more severe.
CAUSES. This is a form of hemolytic anemia that is inherited and mostly
affects blacks. The red blood cells become sickle-shaped and fragile and are
easily destroyed. Red blood cells are usually round.
TREATMENT. No specific medication as of yet although it is being researched.
.The only treatment is for the symptoms.
